Oh! The Places We’ll Go! – Parklea Performance Night

Staging, AUDIO and VIDEO

For Parklea Public School, the end of the school year is a time of celebration, marked by a grand outdoor event — this year titled “Oh! The Places We’ll Go”! — featuring over 700 students performing for their families and the wider community. This is one of Red Globe’s most significant outdoor productions, where we faced the challenge of staging, audio, and video on a large scale to make the night spectacular for everyone.

This year, our team was instrumental in overcoming the challenges of outdoor performances. We designed and constructed a robust temporary outdoor stage with ground support, complementing the existing stage provided by Blacktown City Council. This setup not only offered ample space for the students’ performances but also included a temporary roof to shield them from the harsh 35+ degree temperatures. Impressively, our team completed this structure in less than 12 hours, working outside regular school hours. A special shoutout to our amazing bump-in crew: Andrew Yager, Guy Burge, Matthew Cross, Brayden Steel, Ryan de Bettencor, Jono Boer, and Wayne Chee. We were also fortunate to have additional crew support from Show Support, whose contributions were invaluable.

Audio and Video

To ensure every note and word reached the audience, we deployed our Martin Torus Constant Curvature Line Array and SX118 Subwoofers. We also used DPA 4097 Choir Mics coupled with Shure Axient Wireless packs, masterfully mixed by Andrew Yager on one of our dLive systems, to deliver crystal clear sound. Our outdoor video screen and camera team, led by David Fabri and operated by Jono Boer and Guy Burge, made sure that every audience member could see their children perform, regardless of where they were seated. Our BlackMagic CCU system ensured that even as we approached dusk, all the performers remained consistently lit.

A special thank you goes to SimpleMotion.Lighting for their invaluable assistance in production design and installation. We also extend our gratitude to Design Quintessence and Technical Audio Group for their exceptional support in ensuring timely and safe equipment delivery. Also a thanks to GuzBox Design + Audio for your constant support.

It’s always rewarding to support children and young people in their performances, and we especially commend Mrs. Whittaker, Mr. Berry, Mrs. Boer, Mrs. Gracie, and the entire Parklea staff for orchestrating such a remarkable event. Their dedication made the night not just a performance but a celebration of talent, hard work, and community spirit.
